In 2015 Floral Park Little League created an award named after one of our long time members Sean Brady.
Each year the Floral Park Little League will sponsor a scholarship award for graduating boys and girls in Floral Park Bellerose School, John Lewis Childs School, Our Lady of Victory School and Floral Park Memorial High School.
Overview of the Floral Park Little League Scholarship Awards
Floral Park Little League is a community based educational-athletic organization that provides a high-quality youth experience, in which every participant:
• Is coached using the principles and guidelines of Little League International
• Has fun playing the game
• Feels like an important part of the team regardless of performance or ability
• Learns "life lessons" that have value beyond the playing field
• Learns the skills, tactics and strategies of the game and improves as a player
I. The Floral Park Little League Sean Brady Memorial Award
The Floral Park Little League Sean Brady Memorial Award is named in honor of Sean Brady, an active parent, coach and little league board member, who throughout his life was dedicated to the Little League principles of:
- Teamwork
- Fair Play
- Sportsmanship
- Safety
- Community spirit
- Friendship
- Love of baseball/softball
Sean not only loved baseball, but he loved little league baseball and shared his passion for the game by teaching, coaching and encouraging hundreds of children from our community.
II. Criteria for selection
One boy and one girl will be selected from the current year’s graduating classes of each of the following schools (which are all within the Floral Park Little League District 29 Boundaries): Our Lady of Victory, Floral Park Bellerose School, John Lewis Childs School and Floral Park Memorial High School.
A total of 8 recipients (4 boys and 4 girls)
The applicant must have been active members/participants in the Floral Park Little League for at least 3 years (for grade school applicants) and a total 5 years (for high school applicants).
NOTE: Sewanhaka High School is not considered within the FPLL D-29 boundary and its students are not part of the Floral Park Little League.
Recipients will be chosen by the Brady family and the Floral Park Little League Board of Directors. Recipients receive $200.00 award check.
III. Nomination
Children and parents of children can submit their child’s name for consideration by the child completing a brief statement/paragraph/essay on the following:
“What playing little league means or meant to me”
Applicants will submit the essays to the appropriate person at each school by the specified deadline. The Brady family along with the FPLL Board will anonymosly review all applicants and choose the winners. The Floral Park Little League Board of Directors reserves the right to nominate additional players/students for the following reasons:
- No applicants or few applicants in a particular school (both boys and or girls)
- Qualified applicants who may have been overlooked, not nominated or missed the deadline for a legitimate reason
IV. Award Presentation
The FPLL prefers to present these awards at the school’s designated awards night. Since the FPLL is a community organization, presenting these awards at the school’s awards assembly reinforces the spirit of the award and recognizes these individuals in front of their peers and community as being recipients of an award named in honor of great community leader, Sean Brady.
